Elis-Award

Following a transformational nationwide pilot in Ireland, Microshare’s EverSmart Alert Rodent Control solution – co-developed with Elis Pest Control – won top honors at an international technology competition, the 2023 Operational Excellence Awards.

In nearly 20,000 deployments across the Republic of Ireland starting in 2022, the Elis Connect solution proved transformative for Elis Ireland’s ’s pest control division in many ways, earning it First Place in the “Innovations in Operations” category. The awards ceremony, held in Dublin on June 15, was sponsored by ISS, one of the world’s Top 3 facilities management firms and also a potential client.

“This is a tremendous example of how Microshare technology is digitizing the real world, transforming routines and business processes in place for decades by creating data streams that never existed before,” said Charles Paumelle, Chief Product Officer and a Co-Founder of Microshare. “Our work with Elis required patience, innovation and a willingness to win over skeptics. This award shows where that kind of dedication leads.”

Starting in 2021, Microshare co-developed the innovative remote monitoring solution with the Irish pest control firm PestGuard, which in the interim was acquired by Elis, a large French multinational services company. Since then, Elis has become one of Microshare’s largest clients.

The successful pilot and award highlight the transformational nature of our EverSmart Alert Rodent Control solution, the key to which is Microshare’s AI-driven algorithm. Previous attempts to create a “smart trap” have foundered on high costs, poor technology and a high incidence of false positives – in effect, erroneous activity alerts that caused needless site visits. Microshare’s algorithm has vastly reduced such errors, paving the way for significant savings in labor, energy costs, chemicals and other factors. What’s more, our ability to provide 24/7 monitoring means data flows constantly, alerting to rodent activity when it happens not merely – as with Bluetooth-enabled bait boxes – when a PCO is on site.

This has allowed for important changes in how the rodent control industry works. In contrast to traditional pest control practices where trucks and staff are dispatched on rigid schedules for site visits to check traps, the Smart Rodent Control approach allows dispatches to be made when activity patterns are confirmed, giving PCOs flexibility and when and how often to visit.

In practice, this validates Microshare’s contention that digitization has only started to transform basic industries like Pest Control, Warehousing, Insurance, Multifamily Residential Real Estate and whose processes have been slower to adopt technology than so-called knowledge industries. One tremendous result of the Irish pilot is that it allowed Elis to change its pricing model to reflect 24/7 monitoring, leading to a sharp rise in revenue. Energy savings and carbon emissions reductions followed, as did a 35% reduction in the need for rodenticide.

“This shows what can be achieved when you are not afraid of change and continuously thinking outside the box,” said Marc O’Connor, Elis Ireland senior sales officer and a key player in development of the new system. “Way to go!”
